PR NEWS EXPANDED
“What do you do?” The famous question asked at parties, family gatherings, and casual conversation. When you answer that question, how do you feel? If you are anything less than excited, maybe it’s time to rethink your direction in life.
What we do in life defines us. If you absolutely hate your job and are not proud of it, it can have a detrimental effect on your life in many ways. Your energy can be negatively consumed, leaving only a small amount of joy behind.
So, find out what you are passionate about! Whether it be your love for animals or extreme fascination with plants, marry your passions with your career. Having a “good” job doesn’t always mean having a “good” life.
I started an amazing business, Soukle, back in August of 2012. At the time, I had just finished graduate school and was seeking to fulfill my need of professional friendship and the ability to explore my city. I built a business to meet my personal needs, which was also a need many others were facing. Soukle lasted all while I had a full time “good job”.
I left my job in May of 2015 to pursue full time entrepreneurship in Public Relations. The road hasn’t been without bumps, but it is one of the greatest things I have done.
In March 2016, I made the final decision to truly follow my passions, which had evolved away from Soukle. I no longer found joy in my duties for Soukle, which consisted of mostly event planning. I no longer had a passion for researching venues, setting up venues, creating menus, and hosting events. I realized that I had the skillset but I did not have the desire. Even after receiving compliments and accolades, I knew it was time to move on.
Have you ever felt like this? If so, IT IS OK. Here’s why:
- I was most inspired by NecoleBitchie, who after years of being a successful Celebrity Blogger chose to close down her gossip website. She stated, “Standing at the top of a mountain, feeling accomplished and at the top of your game is cool, but in order to climb another mountain and start a new journey, you eventually have to climb down. And you’ll never know how great you can be until you take that risk.”
- It will feel less like a risk and more like a reward. There is a distinct feeling that happens when you are starting a new journey. When that feeling comes, do not fight it! Embrace it and you will see your life change.
- It’s easy to think of all the things that could go wrong. We fear what we may be losing and may even worry about what we are gaining. Guess what? Something can always go wrong, so find out how to focus only on what can go right.
